    About Us

    ICYS Ipswich Community Youth Service is a not-for-profit community based organisation providing assistance and support to at-risk young people, their families and their communities in the Ipswich and surrounding regions since 1983. As a multi-service organisation, ICYS provides a range of support programs and activities to assist and empower young people to make positive choices and decisions for their future.

    Each year ICYS provides direct services to approximately 6000 young people across 4 Local Government Areas (Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Scenic Rim council areas).

    ICYS provides a range of services in the Ipswich and surrounding community, including:

    • Specialist intake and assessment service that provides information, advice and referral to any young person, family member, carer and service provider to assist young people access support
    • Assistance to young people aged 12-25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
    • Accommodation for young parents aged 16-25 years with children
    • Engagement support for young people aged 12-17 years at risk of disengaging (and newly disengaged) from education
    • Employment and training assistance for young people aged 12-19 years with an intellectual disability
    • Weekly peer groups and diversionary activities for young people with intellectual disabilities
    • School Holiday activities for young people aged 12-17 years
    • Weekly breakfasts targeted at young people in need
    • A weekly playgroup for young parents aged 14-24 years
    • Limited provision of phone cards, travel cards, food vouchers
    • An annual Conference for 500 young people to explore post-school options with the aim of maintaining school attendance
    • Coordinates (often collaboratively with community partners) annual events including:
      • Ipswich Day For Daniel Walk
      • Child Protection Week activities including the annual Gala Dinner and Awards Presentation, community symposium and cinema advertising raising awareness of the safety of children and young people
      • Youth Homelessness Matters Day
      • Youth Forums
      • National Youth Week
      • Community projects surrounding key awareness days e.g. White Ribbon Day, R U OK day, Social Inclusion Week, Families Week, NAIDOC Day, Bullying No Way Day, Harmony Day
      • QT Christmas hamper appeal
    • Produce and distribute resources such as our “Rant Free Renting: a young person’s guide to renting a home” booklet
    • Coordinates specific training relevant to the needs of young people and/or service providers
    • Facilitates specific group programs for young people on an as needs basis and/or on request (e.g. anger management)
